I took William and Jacob on a decent ride over to the reserve near our house yesterday. They have really wanted to go on some dirt tracks so it seemed the best place as we have been there before and you dont need to drive.
It was all going swimmingly until we got onto some bumpy trails. Jacob had a little 'off', luckily slowly onto some soft grass but nevertheless he had a nice old wale! Once he had calmed down he realised nothing was actually sore, so we headed off again. Then a little while later his little bikes (that isnt really meant or built for anything offroad) chain came off. Being a single speed it took some time to get it back on. Eventually we were on our way and headed up a hill. On the other side was a fairly steep descent which had been heavily eroded by the recent rains. William being William on a bike, attacked it with confidence and before I could say "Take it easy" he was picking up speed and out of control. I was hanging back with Jacob as we walked up the hill together, but as soon as I could see that I hopped on and bolted down to him. He took quite a nasty spill and ended up right over the handle bars, arm and face first into the dirt.
Understandibly he was quite shaken up, I held him close and checked him over to make sure he hadnt hurt anything too seriously. Luckily apart from a few grazes and cuts, everything seemed ok. Although he did complain of quite a sore left arm, so I instantly thought it might be broken after such a fall.
We took a nice long walk back to the main road as William was in no condition to ride and had also bent his front wheel quite badly. Jem came and picked him up and Jacob and I wrode home.
We see the specialist tomorrow to find out if his arm is broken after the GP couldnt see any evident fractures. Fingers crossed its all ok and he just needs to rest it. Poor little man is down in the dumps as he had to wear a sling around today and couldnt do anything energetic.
An activity that started off really nicely........
and all of a sudden went pear shaped.
