It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle. ~Ernest Hemingway
The bicycle is truly the most ergonomically efficient and non impacting form of transport.
I have ridden mountain bikes for a while now but road bikes are a whole new world to me and one I am keen to learn more about, especially after watching 'Le Tour' this year and really getting into it. So with a surprising tax return we decided to use some of it to treat ourselves a 'little'. My treat being this 2012 Trek 1.5 64cm. An investment in life I like to think.
I did a fair bit of research online and just like when I was looking for what MTB to get, I'm very limited to the brands and models I can choose from as most don't make a 64cm frame - which is the largest production you can buy. I have to first search for what companies and models make a 64cm frame then compare and go from there. There arent many, so in my price range this lovely bike will more than do the 'trek' I mean trick.
I had a little ride on the laneway and its a completely different feel to what I'm used to.....in a good way. I have to say my dually might be getting a little jealous this weekend as I am really looking forward to tackling the roads of the ACT.
Track or road? I would still have to say track, but it sure is nice to now have a sweet road bike to really find out.
When I go biking, I repeat a mantra of the day's sensations: bright sun, blue sky, warm breeze, blue jay's call, ice melting and so on. This helps me transcend the traffic, ignore the clamorings of work, leave all the mind theaters behind and focus on nature instead. I still must abide by the rules of the road, of biking, of gravity. But I am mentally far away from civilization. The world is breaking someone else's heart. ~Diane Ackerma
Exactly.
