Black Stump hill

We remembered the ANZAC's today by taking a family hike up our favourite hill at the reserve this morning. Its called 'Black Stump hill' (as there is the remnants of an old burnt tree at the top) and its a really nice walk being about the right distance for all to enjoy also being treated with some lovely views.

We stopped at the top for morning tea of freshly baked ANZAC biccies on this ANZAC day public holiday. The boys are fascinated by the huge ant nests, love hurling rocks, climbing things, collecting walking sticks and spotting Kangaroo's (you dont have to look far!)

A lovely morning spent out on another glorious fresh Autumn morning.

Some weirdo's in front of the stump

Lake Burley Griffin is a beautiful place to go any time of year, but in Spring and Autumn when the leaves change colour there are some even more lovely views. I take the boys down there a fair bit and also ride around it alot so I know it pretty well now and the other day we went down there again on a gorgeous day.

We also cought up with 'Uncle Bob Menzies' for a walk. -

The holidays

The school holidays have once again begun and that means let the entertaining begin! We took a trip to Lake Burley Griffin yesterday for the first day and the boys had a play on a lovely Castle and tunnel park hidden away in a section near the Botanic Gardens. Day one, tick.

Photos from the saddle

Early morning mountain bike ride to Stromlo and back. On the way I climbed Dairy Farmers hill amongst the new Arboretum, a tough little climb with a beautiful sunrise reward on this chilly Autumn morning.

Jacob and the tooth fairy

Jacob had his first visit from the tooth fairy the other day as he lost his very first tooth! It felt like such a big accomplishment for him and was very excited.

Jacob and his brand new gap!

Poo present

We have been trying to bribe Lucas by buying him a present if he does a poo on the toilet for a long time now. He finally dropped his first little nugget in the small ceramic pool the other morning much to our delight. So our first activity for the day was off to the shops to buy a 'poo present'! He chose a Ben 10 ultimatrix that he has barely taken off his arm since.

Heres to many more poo's on the toilet little man, although dont expect a present for every one!!

Lucas Talk

Me - "Lucas can you please go upstairs for a shower now?"

Lucas - "No, dont want to"

Me - "Its shower time little man, you need to go up now"

Lucas - "No fankyou"

Me - "Daddy will have to take your spotty leopard if you dont"

Lucas - "Grrrrr, your a doodle face, sorry!

He has been using that lovely phrase for a few weeks now. At the start he was just getting in trouble and then we would make him say sorry for being rude. Now he just says it really fast, almost like its one word - 'youradoodlefacesorry' Such a charming little bugger! Hopefully he doesnt hear a proper swear word in the near future, awkward much.

He has also been right into the Ben 10 cartoon of late, as the boys watch it quite often, he loves playing out all the different characters, pretending to slam his Ben 10 watch down and miraculously transform into all sorts of super cool alien hero dudes! One of which is called accelerate and as you can imagine by the name, he can go really fast.  So Lucas pretending to be Ben 10, likes to run around really fast too.

The other day Jem, Sam, Lucas and I were out and about. When we were heading back to the car crossing a carpark, I was out in front with Sam and Jem and Lucas were a bit behind. Jem was about to reach out and hold Lucas's hand to cross the carpark section when Lucas suddenly bursts into character, making a transforming noise with his pretend watch and turning into Accelerate! Racing at top speed across the carpark to the car before Jem knew what had happened. Pre having a stern talking to about road safety, he mutters to himself in Accelerates voice "Ha ha, I was too fast!"

He is so funny, Jem and I often have moments in the day when we cant help but laugh at some of the things he does, even when we are quite annoyed or angry.

Laneway life

The boys spend a heap of time on the Laneway out the back of our house. Fair enough to as its the only real space they have to branch out a bit and burn off some of that endless kid energy at home. They made friends with a nice bunch of kids a few houses up early last year and have continued to play with them lots over that time. In this built up, sardine like suburban area, laneway life has often been the way to go.

The Laneway larrikins community in age order, Will, Hakeem, Jacob, Mazook, Aliah, Sam and Lucas.
